About AI

What is Appreciative Inquiry?

Appreciative Inquiry [AI] is a way of asking questions to discover the most positive and beneficial qualities about a particular topic. AI is an ideology based on the work of Case Western Reserve’s David Cooperrider, and is built on an idea’s strengths rather than its weaknesses, and seeks to draw out the best in every situation.

Cooperrider’s approach to AI has had a profound effect on the institutions he has worked with. His distinguished, innovative teachings have reached a variety of cultures and societies, from working with the Dalai Lama to going to Jerusalem with Jimmy Carter. David Cooperrider has given speeches and taught at various highly respected universities throughout the country, garnered prestigious awards, and successfully begun to spread the methodology of AI.
